The one tip to improve memory

The basic strategy for improving memory is essentially similar to the strategy for improving physique or health - "Keep Working It"!

How do you "work" your memory? By doing things that challenge you just right, mentally - like jigsaws, crosswords, sudokus, playing chess, scrabble or computer games. Or learning a brand new skill. Or reading new kind of literature.

Or like in my case - watching the thriller "Memento" (2000) for the first time, and trying to figure out what's going on, before watching it again when it started to make some sense!

As long as it requires some level of mental effort on your part, be assured that its a work out for your "memory muscle".

Using mnemonics to remember is what I do. It basically relies on "association" and helps us to get creative in formulating these mnemonics. For example I remembered the spelling "accommodate" using a kind of mnemonic. I used to get confused if there are two c's or two m's. However, it had two of both..in other words it is very accommodating!

Thanks for the article and your website is very informative and easy to follow...keep up the good work!

That's a good mnemonic..
by: admin

.. to remember the spelling of the word "accommodate"! Thanks for your comment.

Another very common one to determine if the letter 'i' comes before or after 'e' in spellings is:

'i' before 'e' - except after 'c'
or when sounding like 'a' as in neighbor and weigh
and 'weird' is just weird.

But there are quite a few exceptions to this rule, though, as you may know.

A few of the more common mnemonics are also listed on this website.

Also, thanks for your good words regarding this website. Truly appreciate it.
