UUUGH!

Lousy customer service turns me off

Lousy customer service turns me off

I have two pet peeves and I believe other people may have the same. Here is how I deal with the stress, albeit minor, that accompanies them.

My first is when I have to call a certain business about an error they have made on my behalf. In other words, I'm right and they're wrong.

Well, I go through my entire spiel and then am told I need to speak to another person. I'm put on hold. Then I speak to the 'other person'. Tell him/her my entire story again and they cannot help me either. I am put on hold again. Lousy music is usually playing on the other end as I am waiting. Sometimes, I end up speaking with several people before the situation is resolved (until I get my bill or whatever the following month and discover how 'corrected' the situation really is).

As I'm waiting, I put the phone on speaker and go about my household activities until I hear the person on the phone. I also hum loudly and crazily while I'm waiting. For some reason, this seems to amuse me and calms me.

My second pet peeve exhibits itself while I'm driving in the car. I will be on the main road and a car will pull up on a small side road. I have the right of way. They are to yield to me. Well, they try to figure out if they have enough time to pull out in front of me without killing us both. They really don't have enough time in the first place, but by the time they think it through, they really don't have enough time. They pull out anyway. Good thing I practice defensive driving.

Anyway, I am a horn blower and have been known to sit on my horn. I rarely do this, but I always have a child, grandchild, etc. in the car with me and get very upset at death staring us in the face. Toot, toot, toot. I love doing that. It makes me feel better.

.. on both those counts. It can get exasperating when you have to speak to multiple operators about your problem, with no solution in sight!

And yes, the merge lane confusions! Toot, toot - Been there, done that!

I think for such minor annoyances, expressing it as you have been is probably the best way to quickly get better of the situation - particularity when it is not really offending other people.

Thanks for sharing your pet peeves, Frances, especially in such an engaging and lighthearted manner.
