Viva La Vida and Lovers in Japan

by Sarah
(United States)

These songs both by Cold Play, are two of the best motivational songs for me. They are beautiful examples of what music should sound like. I predict that people will still enjoy them in 20 years, unlike other songs that just come and go. They make me feel happy and good about myself.

They are uplifting and remind me of fun times in my life. Many different types of people like them. The first time I heard Viva La Vida I was automatically intrigued. I heard Lovers in Japan afterwards and liked it just as much. Both of these songs give me a great feeling on the inside.

Editor's note: Thanks for sharing about your favorite songs. Awesome music. Am posting below the video and lyrics of Viva La Vida by Cold Play.

Viva La Vida Lyrics

I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own

I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing
"Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!"

One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand

I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field

For some reason I can't explain
Once you go there was never
Never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world

It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become

Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?

I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field

For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

I hear Jerusalem bells are ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field

For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

Not my best songs.. but we are all different!
by: Nancy

I can't say I enjoyed these songs. I am going to assume that they were "Christian" songs that are meant to be uplifting.. please correct me if I interpreted them incorrectly! I found feeling just the opposite. A person sings they won't meet St. Peter? If a Christian gives their life to Christ, they are saved.

But like I said, we are all different.

The songs are good in the context of what was requested
by: PR

Hi Nancy,

The songs were two of the best motivational songs for the original poster. That was exactly what is being requested - "list of songs that inspire you". Because, as you pointed out, we are all different, which is precisely why it is good to see and encourage a diverse collection of tastes.

In fact, the original poster has described beautifully why those particular songs really move her. And I myself enjoyed the music and tone of Viva La Vida, which was why I posted the video.

Thanks, though, for your diverse opinion, which is just as needed.

Regards
PR
