With advancements in science and technology, the world has become digital to a large extent. Our education system has evolved and is no longer limited to conventional classrooms. Today, online teaching and learning is spreading at a faster pace.

Moreover, due to the current pandemic conditions, online education has become the need of the hour for our education profession. To teach effectively here and ensure student academic success, it is important to follow the right teaching strategies. Let’s discuss some tips teachers can follow to make online courses more understandable, valuable and resourceful for learners.

Teaching Strategies for Conducting Effective Online Classes

1. Interaction with all students is important

For effective teaching, interaction is of utmost importance. The teacher-centered approach to teaching, who comes for classes and continually explains by having students sit as mere listeners, is not effective. This should be avoided and students should be involved in class activities as much as possible.

All teachers should conduct engaging participatory activities such as group discussions, recitations, question-and-answer rounds, and presentations to make students more interactive. Stay cheerful, happy, and positive to encourage all students to feel confident, safe, and more engaged in online classes. This will help students to seek good academic understanding and improve their learning skills.

2. Use technical teaching aids

For years we have seen teachers dictating and reading material from textbooks to students. Listening to teachers read textbook material is considered boring and less engaging for students. Creative change is strongly required.

Today’s children are very drawn to technology and using it here will help teachers to teach online effectively. By using online teaching apps and sites, teachers can access several audio-visual tools such as educational videos, modules, demonstrations, picture cards, PowerPoint presentations, visual notes, etc. With the help of visualization, students tend to understand concepts better and faster.

3. Don’t forget to organize extracurricular activities

In addition to online theoretical and application courses, extracurricular activities are also very important for the social, academic and behavioral growth of students. By taking online courses continuously, it becomes boring and monotonous for students. To ensure they stay active, fun and engaged, after-school activities should be organized.

Dance, yoga, aerobics, Zumba, art, crafts, acting, painting, and creative writing are some examples of activities that can be done easily online. Every day try to conduct such a course for students. It will also help improve communication, public speaking, social skills, and other personality development traits.

4. Give breaks

For many students, in this current pandemic time, online education is a new learning experience and they are trying to adapt to it. Concentrating through phone or computer screens is hard enough for students. Along with that, going back to classes non-stop can lead to excessive screen time. This causes burnout and affects students’ health and learning.

To ensure that students remain fit and active throughout, it is advisable to take breaks. Even a short break of fifteen to twenty minutes in the middle of the scheduled lectures will suffice. During this break, students can relax, rebuild their powers of concentration and recharge for other lessons.

5. Regularly check class work and homework

For effective teaching, it is important to see whether the students are doing the class work correctly or not. Many students simply sit for class and do nothing. They don’t take notes, keep notebooks, or have learning materials. This affects their learning in the classroom as well as their studies. To avoid this, it is important to regularly monitor student work.

Ask them to actively listen to teachers and take notes in class. Tell them to show their class notes or upload them to the class app. Similarly, it is also important to ensure regular and timely submission of assignments. Full LMS form is a learning management system that teachers can use to track and maintain student work records and take action when needed.

Conclusion

Leaving behind the conventional methods of teaching and learning, online education is achieving more and more success. To teach effectively here, teachers must follow a set of good teaching strategies. By following the tips mentioned above, teachers can teach online effectively and efficiently. This will ensure teaching success and proper academic growth and development of online learners.
