ISRO invites students to apply for a free online course in geoinformatics and participants to obtain certificates

ISRO offers a free online course called Geoinformatics for Biodiversity Conservation Planning for students and professionals

ISRO is currently accepting applications for a free online course titled “Geoinformatics for Biodiversity Conservation Planning”, which can be completed in 12 days. The course will be delivered by the Indian Institute for Remote Sensing (IIRS), which is a center of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), which is a leading training and education institute established to train trained professionals in the field of remote sensing. , geoinformatics and GNSS technology for the management of natural resources, the environment and disasters.

The course is most beneficial for professionals from central government, state, private organizations, NGOs, students and researchers engaged in ecological studies. All course participants will receive an ISRO certificate to attend the course provided they have 70 percent attendance through the e-class portal. Participants attending the course sessions via the IIRS YouTube channel must mark their attendance via an offline session which will be available after 24 hours.

What will ISRO’s free online geoinformatics course cover?

The course aims to help participants understand how remote sensing applications are widely used as a source of environmental information for monitoring elements of biodiversity. Some of the topics that will be covered are as follows:

  • GIS applications in biodiversity conservation planning.
  • Small-scale vegetation mapping using machine learning.
  • 3D characterization of forest biodiversity.
  • Functional assessment of biodiversity using geoinformatics.
  • Wildlife habitat quality assessment using cloud computing geoinformatics for forest monitoring.
  • Biodiversity informatics and wildlife telemetry.

Important Details of ISRO’s Free Online Geoinformatics Course

The course will take place from December 6 to 17, 2021 on the IIRS e-class portal and YouTube channel. All course study materials, such as lecture slides, video-recorded lectures, open source software and demo materials, etc. will be available through the online class. Students and interested professionals are invited to consult the official website for more information.
