Khan Sir or Amit Singh? Who is an anonymous “online professor” from Bihar accused of “Islamophobia”

Who is Khan sir? It’s a question many have asked in recent days after several videos of a popular Bihar “online teacher” making widespread remarks against Muslims went viral. While not the man’s real name, ‘Khan Sir’ has been all the rage on social media for the past few days for all the wrong reasons. In the videos, Khan monsieur appears to be giving lessons but uses extremely foul and Islamophobic language when talking about Muslims or Islam. Several hashtags calling for the man’s arrest also began to circulate and many questioned his religion, alleging that despite the name “Khan”, a Muslim title, the man was not actually a Muslim but a man. Hindu named Amit Singh While Khan Sir’s real name and location remain unknown, here is what we know about the man so far.
Who is Khan Sir?
The man called “Khan sir” runs a YouTube channel called “Khan GS Research Center” where he teaches “general science” to students. A quick glance at the channel reveals “educational” videos on several topics such as how Covid-19 drugs like Remdisivr work, what the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is all about. It also has videos explaining the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War, 2020 agricultural reforms, and a host of other hot topics. Although relatively unknown in mainstream social media, “Khand sir” appears to be enjoying an online niche. His YouTube channel has 9.4 million subscribers and his videos get millions of views. His style of “teaching” is familiar and anecdotal. A Google search revealed that the ‘Khan GS Research Center’ is located in Patna, Bihar.
Why is Khan sir going viral?
Over the past few days, some clips of these “educational ‘Khan sir’ videos have surfaced on social media and have started to spark outrage. In all of the clips, ‘Khan sir’ can be seen making offensive comments and stereotypical about Muslims in order to make a point. Many have since shared the clips online and called out Khan chacha for making Islamophobic comments linking Muslims to terrorism, illiteracy and overpopulation. Several hashtags such as ArrestKhanSir ‘are also in fashion.

Amid the outrage, critics claimed that “Khan sir” was indeed not a Muslim but rather a Hindu man named “Amit Singh”. Several social media outlets shared photos and videos of him attending Hindu festivals and admitting that his name was “Amit Singh” at the bank. However, in a follow-up video, Khan sir himself stated that he was not Amit Singh. With reference to videos circulating in which he himself says his name is Amit Singh, the man says he was joking and that his name was not Amit Singh. He also confirmed that his title was “Khan” and added that he had published several books under the name “Khan sir”. He said several authors were never known by first names and even his business card and other documents were under the name “Khan”. He has provided no further proof of his identity and many remain skeptical. Addressing accusations of Islamophobia, the man said that in the videos he did not talk about all Muslims but only Pakistanis.
